Krump 'N' Break Release

Abstract

A documentary approach on Krumping and Breaking through the eyes of two contemporary choreographers

Krump 'N' Break Release

Intention Note

Our body speaks about our history, our roots, our way of living. Five dancers from France and Germany and four dance styles meet on stage. With the rage of Krump, the acrobatics of Break, the per-meability of Release dance and the communicability of Contact dance, Krump ’N’ Break Release dives into the biographies of each dancer. The dancers revisit their history and the way they relate to their movements while forming their new dance with humor, openness and courage.

UNIDIVERS RENNES

“This performance feels like a mutual invitation from two different worlds and the proof that the result is positive.’’

Magazine Danser

“Malgven Gerbes and David Brandstätter break the image of youngsters that have nothing to loose. Krump ’N ’ Break Release situates itself perfectly in the documentary approach. Deliberately rough, this performance refuses all apparent esthetisation. Its beauty lies in its veracity, in the encounter that it allows and in its simplicity. The dancers are here peformers of themselves, explaining the genesis of Krump and Hip Hop.’’
